ACE, Kolk’s Trauma Research and Neurosequential Model

Our approach builds upon the findings of decades of research based on the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) Study, Bessel van der Kolk’s Trauma Research Foundation, and Dr. Bruce Perry’s neurosequential model. ACEs are a significant unaddressed public health threat facing our society.

The quality of our lives depends not on whether or not we have conflicts, but on how we respond to them.

Trauma Research & The Neurosequential Model

Essential and Transformative Life Skills

One of the main elements of a Trauma-Responsive Approach is its focus on enhancing adult/child relationships. The first step to mitigating troublesome behavior is to understand the history behind it, rather than judging, blaming, and shaming. Informing teachers, school administrators and parents about the effect of childhood trauma allows for a broader perspective as to the root cause of problematic behavior.
